Reason Number 456 Why Communism Failed

without comments

I can only assume this was filmed in Cold War era Mother Russia, and considering the strong stick work and skating skills it makes you wonder how the Iron Curtain fell. It most likely had something to do with the fact that rather than focusing on world domination and beating Rocky they allowed teams of scientists to train bears to play hockey. Way to take your eyes off the prize fellas.

Miracle Whip Categorically Refuses to Tone it Down

without comments

Miracle Whip’s current ad campaign has been catching chatter for its IN YOUR FACE approach at getting on Gen Y’s hoagies and grinders. Agency McGarry Bowen is making the bold and aggressive statement that unlike other homogenized sandwich spreads, which obviously suck, Miracle Whip is cool, it’s hip, it wears tight jeans and rides the L Train. BOOM! Take that mayo!

The first time I watched it my media bombarded brain was incapable of processing what the hell was going on, but upon further inspection there’s definitely a scene in there where a bunch of hipster’s, on a rooftop, that I can only imagine is in Brooklyn, are dancing. Yes, dancing. Which begs the question: are they trying to market to these people or insult them?

None of this was missed by Steven Colbert who got “Miracle Whipped into a frenzy,” last month and started the Mayo-lution.

In response, the Bold Marketing Team at Miracle Whip issued this proclamation today, and I’ve got to hand it to them – pretty clever. Will it make me switch from Hellmanns? Probably not. Will I watch Comedy Central tonight because of it? Doubtful. But up until an hour ago I didn’t even realize there was a difference between Miracle Whip and mayo, so kudos on the brand recognition win.

chewbacca-feeding-a-squirrelIn a recent study conducted by top industry experts, (and by that we mean two interns hopped up on Mountain Dew and leftover Halloween candy), it was confirmed that the amount of Chewbacca Americans receive on a daily basis is low to quite low. Some recieve little to no Chewbacca at all – a leading  cause of Chewie debt. Luckily the fine folks at instantchewbacca.com have clearly said enough’s enough as they bravely combat this epedemic. Kudos fine sirs and arrrarroowwrrerr!

Who is the Bunny Bandit?

with one comment

Over the last couple months bunny bandits have been popping up all over the East Village begging the question: WTF? Is it friend? Enemy? Frienemy? Who is this masked hare and what does it all mean?

We finally turned to the all powerful knowledge of the information superweb to discover that the rabbit in question is in fact… Bunny Bin Laden (cue the sad trombone.)

We get the whole bomb = graffiti thing, but we were hoping for something that didn’t suck slightly more clever.

True Blood

Bloodynipple

The NYC marathon is this Sunday. Like most casual observers, I get the effort it takes to run a marathon, and even more, to finish one. I’ve heard of marathoners who vomit, pee and occasionally poop themselves–while running. But this…this is something else. It looks like a case of stigmata gone horribly wrong. Even worse, it’s apparently not uncommon. How come televised coverage never includes this insane example of endurance? I just know that if it happened to me, I’d stop running and start screaming. “Somebody HELP ME! For the love of god, my nipples are BLEEDING!!” Much respect, marathoners.
