For the sixth year in a row, MKTG was proud to produce another successful TopSpin Charity Ping Pong event last night at NY’s Metropolitan Pavilion as part of our MKTG4GOOD initiative. TopSpin raises awareness and provides funds for exceptional nonprofits that provide educational opportunities for under-served youth.
Over 1000 revelers enjoyed bites from some of the city’s top restaurants, themed cocktails and took home some insane goods from the ever-popular silent auctions…all the while cheering on celebrities, athletes and industry executives as they as they battled at the tables to take home the coveted TopSpin trophy and bragging rights.
Celebrity guests included US Women’s National Soccer Team star Megan Rapinoe, Buster Skrine, Marcus Williams, Dexter McDougle and Darryl Roberts from the NY Jets, Guillermo Hernangomez, Kyle O’Quinn, John Wallace, John Starks and Larry Johnson, WNBA stars Stefanie Dolson, Sue Bird and Deveraux Peters and Ibtihaj Muhammad, musician Kevin Jonas and the American sabre fencer and member of the United States fencing team best known for being the first Muslim American woman to wear a hijab while competing for the United States in the Olympics.

From July 25-31, MKTG hosted dozens of our clients and partners at the 2016 PGA Championship in our private VIP hospitality suite within the historic Club House at Baltusrol. Despite the hot and humid forecast, we all had a blast traversing the course catching some world-class golf.
We also all witnessed history as Jimmy Walker took home his first major title finishing -14 and holding on to the lead the entire time. Walker became the first wire-to-wire winner of the PGA Championship since Phil Mickelson, who won at Baltusrol in 2005. In fact, all four majors this year were won by first-timers including Masters champion Danny Willett; Dustin Johnson, who won the United States Open; and Henrik Stenson, the British Open champ. Walker had missed the cut in his last two majors, never finished higher than tied for seventh at any major and was perhaps best known on the PGA Tour for his unusual hobby: astrophotography, according to the New York Times.
In addition to witnessing Walker’s triumph, we saw reigning PGA Champion Jason Day, the world’s top ranked golfer, make the final holes crazy intense on Sunday , and even got up close and personal with stars like Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, John Daly, among others. Captain Morgan: Let Millennials Run For President
Maybe the country wouldn’t be stuck with deciding between Clinton or Trump if those younger than 35 were eligible to run for office. Now, Captain Morgan is petitioning the U.S. government to allow those under 35 to become president as part of its new campaign.
There are multiple agency partners working on the #Under35POTUS campaign, among them: Taylor Strategy serves as lead creative agency, MKTG for experiential, VaynerMedia for social strategy, Carat for media and Starpower for influencer engagement.
The project centers around the Under35Potus.com website where those over age 21 are encouraged to sign the petition to change Article II, Section I of the United States Constitution, which restricts those under the age of 35 from becoming president. If 100,000 signatures have been acquired by August 17, 2016, the White House will review the petition, distribute it to appropriate policy officials and issue a response. They have a long way to go. As of press time, only 464 signatures have been submitted.
To help raise awareness, Captain Morgan is introducing a campaign video featuring influential and notable Under 35s who are making an impact and changing the world in their own right – including Mogul’s Tiffany Pham, JASH’s Mickey Meyer, Thrillist’s Ben Lerer and Thinkful’s Dan Friedman. Their achievements are shown during the uplifting song “We Are Young” by Fun.
Captain Morgan also penned an open letter that appeared in the New York Times on July 19 calling on everyone to join the cause and sign the petition.
From now through November 8th, the #Under35Potus movement will also be supported by digital, social, PR/Influencer and experiential marketing efforts as well as a robust media buy across platforms like You Tube, Tinder, Buzzfeed, Snapchat, and ESPN.com.
“It’s no secret that Millennials have gradually been disengaging from the political process. The fact that there are very few elected Under 35s on Capitol Hill is symbolic of this disengagement, and bringing more young adults into the democratic system can only make our nation better,” stated Adrienne Cuschieri Grooms, senior brand manager, Captain Morgan. “It’s not like we’re trying to create change for the sake of change. This is a very real and important issue. Millennials make up some of the most progressive, innovative, intelligent, and successful people in our country – why shouldn’t they be able to be President of the United States?”
More than half (52%) of 21-34 year olds say lowering the presidential age requirement would be beneficial for the country, and a clear majority of those polled – 56% – say they would be willing to act on this idea by supporting an amendment to lower the age requirement.

Blurb on the back of your business card: “We’ll give you 50 bucks if you can say Mary Kate’s last name 10 times fast. We have no idea what the name means, but knowing this girl it could mean anything from 1) a complex philosophical theory (she’s been keeping a journal since age 11), 2) A synonym for whistling (she’s very good at whistling), or 3) The sound of terrible table manners (drives her absolutely nuts). Either way, what a name, right?”
What are you passionate about outside of work? Outside of MKTG, my passion project is called “Obvi, We’re The Ladies.” It’s a website I started my senior year of college.
Why did you decide to start X? I was so hungry for some kind of awakening and purpose while in college. I became very interested in women’s issues and feminism, and wanted to get a better understanding of how being a woman affected my identity as a human being. The concept of the site started as an opportunity for me to document my journey to understand these things better. I was going to write about my experiences in the world as a young woman, and hopefully find some people who would connect with me on a personal level, and in turn we would learn that we weren’t alone. I wanted to talk about women’s issues in a way that wasn’t generalizing or preaching or patronizing or disparaging to others with differing opinions, I wanted to talk about the issues in a way that was personal. Quickly, as more women became interested and involved, I found the purpose I had been searching for in the site I created!
Who else is involved? – I have an amazing team working on Obvi, and we’re constantly growing. I have two of my oldest friends, a few of my college friends and a whole bunch of women that I met through social media contributing essays. It’s amazing. A small portion of our team assists with editing, social media, and other behind the scenes responsibilities, and I run the ship. Some of the Ladies are my best friends, and I’ve still never met them in person!
What are your plans to launch? On May 1, 2016 we are launching a video series that we have been working on it for what seems like forever, and finally have all of the resources we need to complete the project. It’s so exciting. The series will feature some of our Ladies as well as some friends from other Chicago women’s groups discussing feminism, womanhood, and societal beauty standards (to name a few topics). We want to provide a platform to help educate people who want to better understand some issues in a way that is palatable and entertaining. I can’t wait to share it.
What are you hoping to accomplish? – At Obvi, we believe that storytelling is activism. We share stories about things that may seem trivial to some, and things that are extremely serious, because regardless, that story matters to the Lady telling it. I hope that as time goes on, we can evolve the ways in which we share stories from written word and video to in-person programs and beyond.

Today, April 6 is the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. It was declared by the UN General Assembly back in 2014 to signify the recognition by the United Nations of the positive influence that sports can have on social and economic development, as well as the advancement of human rights.
To celebrate 6 April, Peace and Sport and MKTG invite everyone to rally around the symbol of a white card as a sign of commitment to peace efforts worldwide.

MKTG was thrilled to manage three separate AT&T activations during Final Four Fan Fest, March Madness & Tip Off Tailgate over the past few weeks! Our AT&T activation at Final Four Fan Fest was a 4-day hoops fan fest at the George R Brown Convention Center. It was an awesome space that featured: appearances by basketball legends and current college coaches, the AT&T Pressure Point, a fully-immersive experience leveraging AT&T technology that puts you on the foul line with a chance to win the NCAA Championship, a relaxing space to charge your devices while watching DIRECTV, a Vine Studio to beef up your social media game at the Final Four and a hoops legend photo op inside an AT&T Connected Car, powered by in-vehicle wi-fi. The March Madness Music Festival was a 3-day music festival at Discovery Green in Downtown Houston, TX. Friday night was AT&T’s entitlement night, called AT&T Block Party #attblockparty where Lukas Graham, Panic! At the Disco and Fall Out Boy performed and absolutely brought the house down!
There was a brand experience and lounge activation all three nights featuring super cool dome structures with great lighting effects, customized screen print t-shirts, a Vine Studio to beef up your social media game at the festival, watch VR footage of other music performances in the Samsung VR area, a relaxing space to charge your devices while watching DIRECTV, a 360-degree photo op, Tip Off Tailgate, a 3-day tailgate activation outside nrg Stadium, AT&T Charging Zone featuring valet and while-you-wait charging, along with live DIRECTV to watch pre-game coverage!

Theo on the Street: NFL Experience
A team from MKTG INC recently traveled to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The festival is the annual mecca for the global marketing communications industry, with the most powerful brands, media outlets, agencies of all kinds (advertising, PR, experiential, digital, technology, data, social, mobile, creative, and many many others) – approximately 15,000 people, flocking to Cannes to network, to visit brand experiences, to close major deals, to learn, to meet a lot of people, and in many cases take home some hardware.
Sure, the setting is seriously glorious, but it is honestly a beast of a week. Think Sundance or CES…at the beach…in the South of France, in the summer. You are running, watching a panel on a rooftop in 85 degree heat, then running into a freezing cold conference room and back again, and grabbing food along the way, usually until sundown when things slow up a bit.
Luckily, my friend Julie Thompson, a 16-year Cannes Lions veteran, wrote this hugely insightful article for Adweek, that I used as gospel to make sure I made the most of my four days in Cannes. Even with Julie’s help, I still overbooked myself, but not complaining.
Between the client and press meetings at our home base, the Dentsu Aegis Beach House, panels, Q&As, creative showcases, press sit-downs, more panels from Adweek, Medialink, digiday, LinkedIn and visits to Google Beach, Facebook’s Hacker Square, and my favorite stop, The Girls Lounge, I averaged 22,000 steps a day according to my trusty companion, my FitBit.
