March QCK3

without comments

MKTGers — who in the heck are these crazy people, anyway? It’s a question that’s been posed many times over the years, and one that has as many answers as askers. In our new monthly feature we’ll select one lucky staff member among our proud herd, asking them three of the hardest-hitting, most thought-provoking questions we could conjure. Softballers we are not.

Our first meet-and-greet is Charlie DeCrescenzo, an assistant account executive in the New York office.

Meet the 'Stach-tastic Charlie D.

Meet the 'Stach-tastic Charlie D.

Q2. What is the most exciting thing you’ve ever done?

A: Cliff-diving in the Thousand Islands.

Q3. What is the best part of your job at MKTG INC?

QCK3: RIC

cool breeze ric

The BLG Friday Feature is the QCK3 (QUICK THREE). This is where BLG engages in a verbal romp with a friendly MKTG INC employee. Rules of engagement? The introduction is the back of your business card and the corresponding photo is randomly selected from your Facebook page. Sock it to me!

Today’s Lucky Art Director: Ric

If you’re holding this card that probably means you’ve met Ric. So you must already know what we’re about to tell you: Ric is cool. He’s cool like it’s his job. But what you might not know is that being cool really is his job. Or more specifically, seeing cool is his job: He’s got the super-slick ninja Jedi eye for what looks cool. He can take a dull, dry-as-dirt marketing concept, plant it in the cool, fertile topsoil of his brain, and bam — the cool blooms. Like it’s his job.

BLG: Are you ready to submit to your 3 questions?

RC: Do I have to submit to them? Can’t I just work together with them?

BLG: I suppose. But just this once. That’s quite a business card you have there. So what is the coolest thing you have ever done?

RC: Sounds fake, but… Yoga in the rain forest steps away from the most active Volcano in the world. In Arenal, Costa Rica. Life-changing. That place is magic.

BLG: Damn you’re cool. What about here at MKTG INC?

RC: So many things. That’s like picking a favorite child. Lemme think…

BLG: While you think… if you had to actually pick a favorite child – assuming you had a gaggle of children – how would you pick them? What would the criteria be?

RC: Whichever one is the smartest. Which one teaches me most about myself. Kids are smarter than everyone.

BLG: Spoken like a true sage.

RC: And the coolest program I have ever worked on… I have to say NIKE World Basketball Festival was pretty awesome. And the Olympic innovation space was great too.

BLG: Whatever you say while wearing those kicks – I’ll believe it.

QCK3: JENA

Jena

The BLG Friday Feature is the QCK3 (QUICK THREE). This is where BLG engages in a verbal romp with a friendly MKTG INC employee. Rules of engagement? The introduction is the back of your business card and the corresponding photo is randomly selected from your Facebook page. Ready? Aim… FIRE!

Today’s Hero: Jena

Jena has the energy of a tornado and the uncomplaining nature of a stoic. You can throw just about any task at her and she’ll find a solution and get it done before your unreasonable deadline. How does she do this? It just might be that rarest of character traits… a solid work ethic. She also is never far from having a good laugh. In fact, if there’s any truth to the laughter = better health connection, then she will probably live forever.

BLG: Thanks for hanging out with us on this lovely Friday.

JNA: You know I wouldn’t miss this for the world. And of course the wine helps.

BLG: I would say multiple wines are being had here. But who’s counting? You know what goes well with this delicious, crisp Sauvignon Blanc? An interview. So let’s get down to it. What do you do here besides drink wine(s) and dress well?

JNA: I lead NIKE Running and other various NIKE programming. I worked a lot with NIKE Soccer during World Cup. I am also working on our FedEx program that is kicking off soon.

BLG: Running! Soccer! Office supplies! Oh my! Quite a diverse portfolio. What’s your favorite thing you have worked on?

JNA: NIKE 5K For Kids. It was a national race series focused on middle school and elementary school aged kids and their supporting communities. 100% of the race proceeds went back to PE, play and athletic programs designated by the participant – all in an effort to get kids moving and fight childhood obesity.

BLG: That sounds like a lot of fun. I think BLG would love that event – except when we were outrun by fourth graders.

JNA: They are closer to the ground, so it makes sense that they are faster.

BLG: You’re too sweet. Let’s see just how sweet. Final question: would you hamster-sit for me if i asked nicely?

JNA: Yes. But only for you – so don’t go spreading it around town.

QCK3: FREDO

without comments

fredo likes pretty street art

The BLG Friday Feature is the QCK3 (QUICK THREE). This is where BLG engages in a verbal romp with a friendly MKTG INC employee. Rules of engagement? The introduction is the back of your business card and the corresponding photo is randomly selected from your Facebook page. Take a dip in this weeks’ hotness.

Today’s Victim: Fredo

Part Account, part Production, part Creative, part Style Icon: Alfredo, a.k.a, Fredo a.k.a Don Pablo Cantina a.k.a the Tight Roll Assassin will do whatever it takes to get the job done – and done in style.

BLG: That is the best business card we have read yet. Assuming the Tight Roll Assassin refers to your expertly rolled khaki pants, yes?

FRDO: Naturally. And I actually don’t have a card. But if I did it wouldn’t say any of that shit. It would just say “Stay sexy my friends!”

BLG: I like you. So what do you do around here anyway?

FRDO: I do a little bit of this and little bit of that and somehow an event takes place, people are happy and the photos look hot. Truthfully – I don’t like talking about myself.

BLG: Never would have guessed. Ok then let’s talk about something other than you. This being a blog – what’s your favorite Interweb video?

FRDO: The Man Who Walked Around The World by Johnnie Walker. Hands down one of the best things I have ever seen.

BLG: That is a good one. And JW is delicious scotch. In fact, I think BLG needs a scotch right about now. Last, most important question: zombies or vampires?

FRDO: Vampires, 100%,  cause those guys are always styling while doing dirty deeds. Play on players!

BLG: And there you have it. Vampires: 1, Zombies: 0. Play on players, indeed.

QCK3: TONY

GO DAWGS

The BLG Friday Feature is the QCK3 (QUICK THREE). This is where BLG engages in a verbal romp with a friendly MKTG INC employee. Rules of engagement? The introduction is the back of your business card and the corresponding photo is randomly selected from your Facebook page. Sick ’em, boys!

Today’s subject: Tony

Tony is a Group Account Director who chose the ho-hum backing of his business card, so we don’t have a super-sweet description to put here. What does this say about Tony? BLG investigates on this fine Friday morning…

BLG: Why no custom business card? Is Tony not a risk-taker?

TNY: Well, I wanted it to say something about me making the world safe for democracy and/or kickin’ ass and takin’ names, but somehow that was lost in the editorial process. Can’t trust you writers.

BLG: Fair enough. And speaking of trust, I’m not sure i’d entrust the future of democracy with you anyway. You wouldn’t have time to watch college football…

TNY: Very true. GO DAWGS!

BLG: So what do you do when you aren’t doing here?

TNY: I think about how awesome it would be if I WAS here, and what I’ll do when I’m ACTUALLY here.  Aside from that, I play with my 2 little dudes (Aldo: 19 months and CJ: 5 Months, and my awesome wife Amber: 396 months).  This typically involves loading up the stroller (it’s a double-decker UppaBaby…it rocks) and wandering to all of the exotic spots of the Upper Eastside. I also watch UGA Football.  That is all.

BLG: I’m sure Amber is happy you took the time to count out how many months old she is. And that we are now publishing it here. Oops. So besides contributing to the Upper Eastside Strollerocracy, you have worked on a ton of programs in your MKTG INC tenure. What’s your fave?

TNY: I’d say it’d have to be The Classic Malts Mentor program.  (And you thought I was going to say Johnnie Walker Journey/House of Walker).  The Classic Malts Mentor program was a lot of fun, because I got to work with the Masters of Whisky to develop a program that was tactile, engaging, entertaining and had a direct impact on rate of sales for accounts.  AND we were talking about scotch, so how could it NOT be fun?

BLG: We love scotch at BLG. And yes, we did think you were going to say Johnnie Walker Journey/House of Walker.

TNY: Of course that would be a close second.  Because of the event, but also because of the people I got to know working on those programs over the last 5+ years.

BLG: I bet you went through a lot of kilts in 5+ years.

TNY: Naturally.

QCK3: MARY ANNE

without comments

MRYNN

The BLG Friday Feature is the QCK3 (QUICK THREE). This is where BLG engages in a verbal romp with a friendly MKTG INC employee. Rules of engagement? The introduction is the back of your business card and the corresponding photo is randomly selected from your Facebook page. Hide the womens and childrens!

This week’s subject: Mary Anne

Mary Anne’s designer eyes see thing differently from the rest of us. She sees the same things we do, but with an additional dimension. Are we saying 4D? Yes, we are. She can dimensionalize (not a word) a given product or service and translate it via her vision and skill into something more than the sum of itself  – a something that inspires imagination, grabs peoples’ interest, their loyalty and, finally, their wallets. Is this a complicated way of saying she can really bring a concept to life? Yes, it is.

BLG: I like the warrior photo. You look like you’re ready for battle.

MRYNN: Oh I am. My friend hurt his head and had to wear a wrap around it. So we all wore headbands in solidarity.

BLG: And it’s red! Like the bows on Mary Anne from Gilligan’s Island pigtails! So who’s your Professor?

MRYNN: Gillian’s Island reference. So original.  *PUNCHES BLG*

BLG: Ouch! Sorry! You’re fiesty. No wonder they keep you in the Creative Cage. What do you do besides make pretty pictures and dole out sweet karate chops to people making Gilligan’s Island references?

MRYNN: I ride my bike, play kickball, take mini road trips, go to concerts, you know.

BLG: Biking! Do you know how to change a bike tire? That is always impressive. Or change a car tire? That’s more impressive.

MRYNN: No, I don’t know how to change and if I did I wouldn’t tell you – I’m afraid of change.

BLG: You sound like you live in Brooklyn. What’s a typical evening in BK like?

MRYNN: Usually hanging with friends, drinking with strangers, cutting my jeans into shorts and talking about feelings.

BLG: Friends! Strangers! Cocktails! Jorts! A girl after our own heart.

QCK3: NICK

BLING!

A new BLG Friday Feature is debuting today called the QCK3 (QUICK THREE). This is where BLG engages in a verbal romp with a friendly MKTG INC employee. Rules of engagement? The introduction is the back of your business card and the corresponding photo is randomly selected from your Facebook page. Oh yea!

First up: Nick

Nick is the guy you want in the lifeboat with you.  He does not fret, panic or run around like a chicken without its head. Of course, nick brings that same steady hand to account service, as well, whether he’s directing, planning, implementing, optimizing or just plain leading the way. If you want to rock the boat, however, try making fun of Notre Dame or the Yankees.

BLG: What’s with the Saints bling in this Facebook photo?

NCK: Tiffany – one of our clients – did the bling for the Superbowl rings. That’s my finger!

BLG: You have nice hands. And that ring is so sparkly. Like the glitter in your eye when you work on great projects. So what’s your fave thing you’ve ever worked on?

NCK: Pro Combat Rivalry Tour. Hands down. We unveiled the NIKE Pro Combat uniforms at colleges.

BLG: Wow, that must have been terrible hanging out on college campuses all the time. Could I bring my grandma to this Combat Rivalry or would nana have a freak out?

NCK: We spent a lot of time at southern schools. Coming from NYC things were a lot slower down there. Perfect speed for nana.

BLG: Bear v. Shark: who’s winning? It’s in outer space so don’t worry about breathing ability.

NCK: In that case, shark. Faster. Stronger. More agile. Miles of teeth. Have you seen JAWS? I don’t see them making a movie called BEARS.

BLG: Unless it’s the Chicago Bears. Ditka v. shark?

NCK: Trick question. Ditka IS shark!
