From July 25-31, MKTG hosted dozens of our clients and partners at the 2016 PGA Championship in our private VIP hospitality suite within the historic Club House at Baltusrol. Despite the hot and humid forecast, we all had a blast traversing the course catching some world-class golf.

We also all witnessed history as Jimmy Walker took home his first major title finishing -14 and holding on to the lead the entire time. Walker became the first wire-to-wire winner of the PGA Championship since Phil Mickelson, who won at Baltusrol in 2005. In fact, all four majors this year were won by first-timers including Masters champion Danny Willett; Dustin Johnson, who won the United States Open; and Henrik Stenson, the British Open champ. Walker had missed the cut in his last two majors, never finished higher than tied for seventh at any major and was perhaps best known on the PGA Tour for his unusual hobby: astrophotography, according to the New York Times.

In addition to witnessing Walker’s triumph, we saw reigning PGA Champion Jason Day, the world’s top ranked golfer, make the final holes crazy intense on Sunday , and even got up close and personal with stars like Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, John Daly, among others.  – March Madness is known for creating heart-stopping, awe-inspiring moments as 68 college basketball teams get whittled down to just one that is crowned the N.C.A.A. men’s basketball champion. For this year’s Final Four in Houston, Texas, N.C.A.A. sponsor AT&T worked with Team Epic and MKTG to create an immersive activation at the Final Four Fan Fest designed to help fans feel connected to the game, which ties to the brand’s marketing campaign.

“Our current campaign is all about the ‘Network of You’—how AT&T’s network is personalized and keeps you connected to the things that are important to you any time and any place,” said Enrique Casanova, vice president of Team Epic. “There is probably no other sporting event in this country that creates the roller coaster of emotions that the N.C.A.A. tournament does. So we wanted to see if there’s a way to capture that emotion in a tangible way and show people what it feels like, to give college basketball fans that very future-forward, connected experience.”

MKTG was thrilled to manage three separate AT&T activations during Final Four Fan Fest, March Madness & Tip Off Tailgate over the past few weeks! Our AT&T activation at Final Four Fan Fest was a 4-day hoops fan fest at the George R Brown Convention Center. It was an awesome space that featured: appearances by basketball legends and current college coaches, the AT&T Pressure Point, a fully-immersive experience leveraging AT&T technology that puts you on the foul line with a chance to win the NCAA Championship, a relaxing space to charge your devices while watching DIRECTV, a Vine Studio to beef up your social media game at the Final Four and a hoops legend photo op inside an AT&T Connected Car, powered by in-vehicle wi-fi. The March Madness Music Festival was a 3-day music festival at Discovery Green in Downtown Houston, TX. Friday night was AT&T’s entitlement night, called AT&T Block Party #attblockparty where Lukas Graham, Panic! At the Disco and Fall Out Boy performed and absolutely brought the house down!

 

There was a brand experience and lounge activation all three nights featuring super cool dome structures with great lighting effects, customized screen print t-shirts, a Vine Studio to beef up your social media game at the festival, watch VR footage of other music performances in the Samsung VR area, a relaxing space to charge your devices while watching DIRECTV, a 360-degree photo op, Tip Off Tailgate, a 3-day tailgate activation outside nrg Stadium, AT&T Charging Zone featuring valet and while-you-wait charging, along with live DIRECTV to watch pre-game coverage!

Nike+ NYC Color Run

Last night Nike+ NYC officially unveiled their new Thursday Night Football “Color Rush” jerseys for the Jets vs. Bills game. In the week leading up to the jersey unveil, Nike+ NYC hosted a series of “Color Rush” themed runs throughout the city. Last night Nike trainer Knox Robinson led a 4.5 mile run through the city which ended at Midtown bar Snaffu 28. Runners were greeted with food and drink and of course, a live streaming of the Jets vs. Bills game!

Super Bowl 50 Tour Kicks off in Bay Area

The 50 Tour: Champions of the Bay Presented by Chevron is the Host Committee’s mobile exhibit designed to celebrate the history of the Bay Area’s championship teams, the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers. Our MKTG SF team is thrilled to be a part of this and get people pumped up for “the biggest Super Bowl the NFL ever celebrated, and one that will be uniquely Bay Area!”

What’s on tap at the 50 Tour

Champions Row:  Eight Bay Area Super Bowl Vince Lombardi Trophies will be on display – five from the San Francisco 49ers and three from the Oakland Raiders – with photo montages capturing the championship wins. The 50 Tour will be the first time that all eight championship trophies will be displayed together.

The Chevron STEM Zone: An initiative to promote higher education in science, technology, engineering, and math, the Chevron STEM Zone will invite Tour visitors to learn more about the science of football. Together, Chevron and the 49ers Foundation have donated $4 million dedicated to providing engaging STEM curriculum for Santa Clara area students.

Super Bowl High School Honor Roll:  This 50 Tour Super Bowl High School Honor Roll display will feature the greater Bay Area high schools and communities that have contributed to Super Bowl history, highlighting 99 players and coaches from the greater Bay Area region.

PLAY 60, Play On: Produced in partnership with the NFL Foundation, this interactive play zone will include an NFL PLAY 60 obstacle course, football-themed play extravaganza’s led by Playworks and an Imagination Playground – an innovative play system that inspires children’s creativity.  In partnership with KaBOOM!, Playworks, and U.S. Fund For UNICEF, Play 60, Play On will bring physically active, imaginative and interactive play to children where they are.

The Re(a)d Zone: This family-friendly space will encourage a love for reading with access to thousands of digital titles and learning games and NFL players and Legends and other local celebrities hosting reading hours as part of the Host Committee’s early literacy initiative focused on increasing third-grade proficiency throughout the Bay Area.

Autograph Sessions: Fans will have the opportunity to meet current and former NFL players, as well as other Bay Area champions.

TopGolf welcomes MKTG’s Atlanta Office “FUNN DAY”

Every summer, we in Atlanta partake in one of our most anticipated days of the year – FUNN DAY! (So much Fun we added another N). This annual office outing has taken on many forms both on land and on water. The various activities have always been part of FUNN Day’s uniqueness and charm.

This year we headed to the brand new TopGolf Atlanta Midtown – the second such facility in the metro area. TopGolf has become a wildly popular social golf entertainment center with locations popping up all over the country at a seemingly rapid rate – and we got to see why, first hand, how it can produce a memorable office outing. As they put it: Just picture a larger-than-life-sized outdoor dartboard – but for golf. And for a little friendly rivalry, the high-tech balls instantly score each shot’s accuracy and distance.

Everyone split into the various stations we had reserved and then the competition was on! With six players per hitting bay and some rounds of cold beverages on a warm summer day, everyone had a great time away from the office. All Those In Favor of A 5K With Kevin Hart Say “Nike Run Club

We all know Kevin Hart is a pretty big deal in the comedy world (i.e., jokes like this), but what you may not know is that he recently teamed up with Nike Run Club to launch a program that is motivating people across the country to get up and get moving. Don’t believe us? Here’s the proof.

All jokes aside (last one, promise), Nike Run Club is more of a movement than a program; specifically designed to cater to all fitness levels. Whether you’re a seasoned runner looking for a change of pace, or a beginner training for your first 5K with Kevin Hart, Nike Run Club doesn’t disappoint.

Marriott Intl. Thinks Global, Acts Global As New Official NBA Worldwide Partner

July 30, 2015: Marriott International has destinations worldwide, and now can put them into play for theNBA.

Marriott has signed a deal making it the official hotel partner of the NBA, specifically for several jewel events, beginning with this weekend’s NBA Africa Game and also including the NBA Global Games 2015-16 and NBA Canada Series 2015.

The NBA said that Marriott would be the first company to align with the NBA across international games on five different continents.

Marriott International said it has more than 4,200 properties in 80 countries and territories. The company reported revenues of nearly $14 billion in fiscal year 2014.

“Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world, and our partnership with the NBA gives us an opportunity to tap into a passionate fan base and communicate the breadth and depth of our portfolio,” Karin Timpone, global marketing officer for Marriott International, said in a statement. “Similar to what we are doing with music and entertainment, our NBA partnership helps us create memorable experiences for our Rewards members and amplify the benefits of the program for both new and loyal guests.”

Bethesda, MD.-based Marriott International plans to support the union with multi-platform activations, including a sweepstakes for Marriott Rewards members in the U.S. offering the opportunity to win a trip and tickets to an upcoming NBA global event.

Marriott Rewards will host a series of private meet-and-greets with NBA legends and players for its Elite members and invite fans to take a virtual trip via an #AroundTheWorld photo and social sharing experience. That will begin with the inaugural NBA Africa Game on Aug. 1 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Other marketing partners involved with the NBA Africa Game include Nike, Ford, South African Airways and telecom company Econet Global.

Marriott International said it would then offer Marriott Rewards members exclusive access to NBA games and events in  11 other cities across Brazil, Canada, China, Italy, Mexico, Spain and the U.K.

All but two of the games are part of the NBA’s pre-season exhibition schedule. The two games that are part of the 2015-16 regular season are Boston Celtics vs. Sacramento Kings in Mexico City Arena (Dec. 3) and Orlando Magic vs. Toronto Raptors in London’s The O2 (Jan. 14).

According to Emilio Collins, NBA evp-global marketing partnerships, “For our fans around the world, there is no opportunity more exciting than when live NBA games are played in their home countries. Marriott International is a renowned brand with extensive global operations, and is the ideal partner to help broaden the reach of our games and engage more fans.”

Marriott International operates and franchises hotels and licenses vacation ownership resorts under 19 brands, including: Marriott Hotels, The Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, Moxy Hotels, Courtyard and Residence Inn.
