Shelter Satisfaction

My quest for a shelter mag with an approachable yet suitably downtown cool aesthetic is no news in this space. I’ve already confessed my reluctant love of Lonny, a digital mag that was the first major comer to the try-to-replace Domino party. Recently, though, I’m not quite as big a fan due to their format shift (full-screen flip-through isn’t an option–they rejiggered to be non-Flash. Thanks, iPad.).
Fortunately, I’ve come across a few other contenders lately. Rue not only is easy to read like Lonny used to be, but it also has a slightly more sharp-edged style. I’m also excited about Anthology. On top of having an Eloise-meets-New Yorker illustrated cover, they are–get this–a print magazine to boot. I’ve only seen the preview so far, but I really need to get in gear and order a subscription.
Fingers crossed that this bodes well for a resurgence of youthful yet sophisticated shelter mags in the marketplace.
