Surf’s Up

While most eyes will be on Yankee Stadium in October, earlier this fall Nike’s Bowery Stadium played host to Dark Sun, an exhibition by photographer Ari Marcopoulos. For two weeks, the MKTG-designed space was adorned with black and white pictures of New York’s burgeoning surf scene and wave-shaped sculptures that doubled as skate ramps.

Check out this Cool Hunting post for more details on Marcopoulos and a full write-up on the installation.

Photoshop & Cool

Photoshop & Cool

Smile, we’re on camera! Event Marketer this week took special note of the Photoshop & You pop-up space that MKTG produced for Adobe in San Francisco earlier this month. The experience, located in the former HANG art gallery, celebrated the art of photography through antique-camera collections, how-to sessions and workshops, and neighborhood photo walks.

Calling all gamers of the last 40 years. Yes, even those of you who are still playing Pong.

Good news…video game art is finally being recognized as a legitimate art form. How legit? There’s going to be an exhibit at the Smithsonian.

The best part?  You get to vote for which games make it into the exhibit. So as Cee Lo would say, are you more Xbox, or more Atari? We’re more Nintendo. Check our client list.

HIGHLINE SNOW-OFF

rats!

How sad that what used to belong to the world of playful childhood innocence has become the stuff of fierce adult competition. Witness the snow sculpt-off that took place this week after a big blizzard hit our ‘hood.

My vote goes to the snow-rats. Are those drink-stir whiskers?

t1larg.facebook.profile

Hackers…or uh ‘enterprising designers’…are turning the re-designed profile pages on Facebook into works of art.

Many bloggers are crediting Alexandre Oudin as the art movement’s pioneer. His supplies? Photoshop and Facebook’s privacy settings. Yep, it’s that easy.

Need some inspiration? Check out 15 of the best “profile hacks” on refaceme.com. Then hack away, hackers.

Think your commute is bad? Have a look at the poor sods on this Tokyo commuter rail. Noted photographer Michael Wolf’s new series, Tokyo Compression, captures Tokyo commuters on their way to work — pressed flush against the windows of their packed subway cars. Even the glass sweats. Sweet Lookin' Treats!

Sweet Lookin' Treats!

Yeah I stole the title from the Food Network, but that’s okay, some of the best things in life are recycled. Kind of like the experiment that food blog Chow has taken on. With the sad demise of Kodachrome recently, those lovely colors we remember from our childhood have officially been replaced by whatever filter your phone app happens to have. Well, as all good planners do, Chow bought up a whole slew and then did what they do best: Cooked up a big feast (or two, or three). Using vintage menus and vintage film Chow paid direct homage to the cookbooks and recipes of the 50s and 60s. ‘Tis the season for good food and nostalgia, and this brings it all home in one yummy looking package!

Japan-Fashion-Now-FIT-Museum-NYC-1

“You Harajuku girls, damn you’ve got some wicked style.” – Gwen Stefani

No doubt: Gwen knew what she was talking about when she penned these lyrics about her favorite Japanese fashionistas. The Japan Fashion Now exhibit at FIT in New York is proof. Around every corner you’ll find otherworldly creations on the bleeding edge of fashion.

Considering a visit? Good fortune awaits you. Well, good fashion anyway.
