HIGHLINE SNOW-OFF

How sad that what used to belong to the world of playful childhood innocence has become the stuff of fierce adult competition. Witness the snow sculpt-off that took place this week after a big blizzard hit our ‘hood.
My vote goes to the snow-rats. Are those drink-stir whiskers?
Walking in a Window Wonderland

This is what we call eye-popping window shopping. Each holiday season New York department stores follow a beloved New York tradition when they unveil their holiday window displays to much fanfare, hoots and hollers, dropped jaws, and occasionally celebrity sightings the week of Thanksgiving.
Windows at Saks, Macys, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, Lord & Taylor, and Barneys are now ready for viewing, and they’re quite a show: themes include everything from disco-era Christmases at Lord & Taylor to travel scenes at
Bergdorf. The winner of the windows, though, has to be creative director Simon Noonan’s foodie paradise at Barneys – everyone from Julia Child to Mario Batali is on display. Orange crocs included.
SHIPPING CHIC

Shipping containers have a special place in our hearts – we have used them for everything from pop-ups to party pubs. But here’s one use we hadn’t thought of – bolstering your real estate. And a penthouse, no less. Only in New York. (via gizmodo)
Atomic Phones
What would you do if someone stole all your band’s instruments, leaving you with nothing but your phone? Duh. Start an iPhone band.
Using nothing but 4 iPhone apps, Brooklyn-based Atomic Tom took their show on the…uh…track. They found a free venue with a captive audience: the New York City subway.
Here’s to turning the B train into the Beat train. There’s hope yet for my commute home.
Pop-Up Cafes and experiential marketing
Apparently today was the first of what may be many “pop-up” cafes in NYC (not to be confused with the sitting “parks” installed around Times Square and other parts of the city). According to the Gothamist story, these cafes are paid for by local participating proprietors and you don’t have to purchase food to take a break, sit down and relax at the tables. As you can see from the second picture, David Byrne was there to celebrate the innaugural event with some DOT folks. We see many interesting experiential marketing ideas taking shape here – especially if you team it with geolocational apps, oh, and of course, some cool brands. (Photos from Gothamist)
TRUSTOCORP IS ON THE MAP
This is a follow up to the 1/15/2009 post highlighting TrustoCorp after signs were popping out in Miami during Art Basel. TristERRRRRR- TrustoCorp takes on the island of Manhattan and in their words, “highlighting the hilarity & hypocrisy of human behavior.” Takes on an interesting shape.
