MKTG and Diageo made a splash at the 16th annual Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans (July 19-24, 2016). TOTC is the world’s premier cocktail festival for both industry and consumers, sponsoring a series of seminars, tasting rooms, spirited dinners and volunteer events with the Bon Vivants (San Francisco-based & nationally recognized cocktail, hospitality, marketing and design firm). Immersive experiences allowed attendees to experience innovative Canadian-themed cocktails by Crown Royal, rejuvenate in the morning at the Tanqueray Gin & Juice bar, taste rare malts from the scotch portfolio- brought together by some of the greatest bartenders in the world at the World Class Family Reunion dinner and let loose at the #DiageoGames portfolio party.

Some highlights included:

Ode to the Bowl: Tequila Don Julio, Zacapa Rum, Ketel One Vodka and Bulleit Bourbon sponsored the unofficial kick-off to Tales of the Cocktail at the world-famous Rock’n’Bowl lanes, in a partnership with the Spare Room in Los Angeles. Teams from around the globe competed for the Punch Bowl prize, with Team London bringing home the gold!

World Class Family Reunion: After five years of touring the country and looking for the best bartenders, Diageo’s World Class program hosted a dinner to reunite past competitors and reminisce about the challenges and triumphs of the past five years.

#DiageoGames Portfolio Party: Diageo showcased 14 of its brands at the Diageo Games, arguably one of the most talked-about events at Tales of the Cocktail this year. Each brand represented a country, and activities that consumers could participate in included volleyball, badminton, speed-walking and foosball.

A buzz was building throughout the week with the “Follow the Torch” campaign and hashtag.  Bartender Sean Kenyon and a group of 15 bartenders began the journey with the torch in Denver, CO, riding their motorcycles to New Orleans, and the journey was completed throughout the week of Tales of the Cocktail in the French Quarter by bartenders on a custom, branded pedicab with inflatable torches. Each leg of the run was shared on social media, and generated more than 53,000 likes and views.

Tasting Room- A Spirited Celebration of the Americas: Lauren Mote (2015 Canadian World Class Champion and co-founder of Bittered Sling Bitters) partnered with Diageo’s Reserve Brands to execute this tasting room to take guests on a tour from Western Canada to the Southern United States, mid-Mexico through to Central America, with a quick bounce to the Patagonian region of South America, all told through the story of cocktails.

Guests enjoyed the following cocktails, brought to life in posters and recipe postcards designed by New Orleans-based artist Phillip Collier:

Neerlandia: Ketel One Vodka, Caesar Mix & Bittered Sling Gastown Bitters

Freemasonry Fizz: A breakfast-inspired Ramos gin fizz featuring Tanqueray No. TEN with local organic eggs & Fruit Loop cereal garnish

Anacafé: Zacapa Rum 23 paired with fresh espresso, yellow Chartreuse & Giffard Banane

Century Plant: Tequila Don Julio Blanco, Mezcal, Aloe Vera Juice, Ginger, Lime & Gose beer

Introducing World Class Training Labs

with 2 comments

MKTG is proud to be a part of this year’s World Class Training Labs. World Class Labs serve as both workshop and playground where bartenders explore the industry’s most relevant topics and practice new skills, all with the guidance of bartending luminaries. The Labs’ purpose is to honor, elevate and extend the craft of bartending, and the passion for it, throughout the industry. The Labs provide a platform for our Reserve brands to participate and provide “Best in Class” Training to the trade community.

A one day, 3 session, skills and brand training event leverages existing brand training content such as Tanqueray “classics and Ketel One “Food Pairing.”  Each training lab features World Class talent from either US, Global Markets, or Experts who also run seminars on relevant topics such as the Art of Presentation. Attendance at any of the World Class Training Labs satisfies the learning requirement for entering the World Class competition.

During the brand sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about some of the world’s most premium liquors. While learning about Don Julio, Ambassador and participants will travel to a local farm where a local farmer will lead a seminar on fresh ingredients. Ketel One participants will enjoy a hands on food pairing training session while Zacapa Rum participants will sit in on The Art of Show – Unlocking Flavor brand education.

The World Class Training Lab program began in early September and will continue through early February in several US Markets. Take a look below at photos from previous markets and stay tuned to MKTG’s social channels for photo updates as the program continues!

Don Julio Shakes Things Up at FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen

with one comment

001__MG_2061In honor of founder, Don Julio González, and his passionate pursuit to craft the world’s finest luxury tequila, Tequila Don Julio has introduced a vintage fleet of pickup trucks from the 1942-era that represent his unparalleled spirit and legacy. Each truck comes with a high tech cocktail tap system (installed by the Airstream Speakeasy team) that can serve crafted cocktails at a high volume for large-scale events. This single tower, dual tap nitrogen system features 25 gallons worth of cocktail storage that ensures speed of service at the perfect temperature.

075__MG_1561

This “Craft on Draft” system came in handy at several culinary events around the FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen this year. MKTG INC brought the truck and Denver’s finest mixologists to epicurean celebrations such as Heritage Fire: a gathering of 50+ chefs who practiced wood-fired, whole animal cooking techniques over live-fires, Sunday Fun Day: an industry only day consisting of beef and eggs, white water rafting and a 200 2-pound lobster feed, and the annual Last Man Standing Party: a fete not to miss at the scenic mountain top park overlooking Aspen.

079__MG_2393

The trucks will be based in New York, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Whether you’re enjoying delicious food at a culinary festival or taking in the sounds at the summer’s hottest music festivals, be sure to keep your eyes peeled since the trucks will serve innovative seasonal drinks to enjoy at any occasion.

MKTG INC Plays the Field at Super Bowl XLIX

with 2 comments

Some quick sports trivia: How many celebrities crossed an MKTG-affiliated threshold at this year’s Super Bowl? Answer: At least 100 yards’ worth. From Nick Lachey to Nick Jonas, from Erin Andrews to Andrew Luck, from Mark Teixeira to Mark Sanchez, MKTG collaborated on no fewer than 4 different brand activations throughout the Big Game weekend.

NFL BARBER SHOP
NFL Barber Shop
Super Bowl Media Day took place on the Tuesday before Super Bowl XLIX at the US Airways Center in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. To help make players and personalities feel at home before their media interviews, MKTG INC tempted up with the NFL to create a premium lounge experience for Seattle Seahawks players.

The NFL’s Barbershop experience staffed top celebrity barbers for players about to “go live” on camera. The service menu included everything from haircuts to straight razor shaves to trims to hot towels.

As soon as the doors opened, the Barbershop was crowded with Seahawks looking for a pre-camera makeover. Several players even asked for in-room hotel visits from our celebrity barbers, so they could look their best before the big game.

SUPERB OWL III
Superb Owl v2
The 3rd annual Superb Owl took place on the Friday before Super Bowl 49 at RnR Gastropub in the heart of Old Scottsdale, AZ.

A little bit of background: The Superb Owl is the international take on the celebrations surrounding the American Football Championship game, the Super Bowl. The idea was concepted by 5 English pals – some living in London and some in NYC – who wanted to create a unique experience unlike the usual testosterone-fueled, beer & wing fest that go hand-in-hand with the Super Bowl.

This event is part networking, part spectacle with light entertainment and a quintessentially English theme.

Now in its 3rd year (and best year yet!), the Superb Owl has evolved into a staple event for key influencers in the Sports & Entertainment industry, various US & UK media partners, key clients and prospective clients. This year’s Superb Owl, which has been hosted by MKTG and the 5 “Owls” from the UK in the years prior, was joined by a third host, psLIVE.

The cross-agency collaboration enjoyed record turnout for a jolly good night of networking, noshing and libations.

TEQUILA DON JULIO AND 1OAK PRESENT THE NEON CARNIVAL AT THE BIG GAME
Don Julio Neon Carnival
For the fifth year in a row, Tequila Don Julio made an exciting impact on the Big Game Weekend social scene, but this time with something entirely new and unexpected. In collaboration with nightlife impresario 1OAK, the brand brought the legendary Neon Carnival event from the desert of Indio, CA to the desert of Phoenix, AZ for the first time ever.

Hosted at Castles n’ Coasters on Friday, January 30th, this one-of-a-kind exclusive event featured the fun of carnival games and rides, handcrafted cocktails served from the Airstream Speakeasy and the hottest music in town by acclaimed DJs Ruckus and Politik. The buzzed-about event attracted influencers such as actor Chris Evans, NFL star Mark Sanchez, host of VH1’s Morning Buzz Nick Lachey and reality star Audrina Patridge.

WHEELS UP SUPER SATURDAY TAILGATE
WU

The 2nd Annual Wheels Up Super Saturday Tailgate Party pulled out all the stops this year at the Maya Club in Scottsdale with 1,000 members and their guests, which was the talk of Phoenix. Among the celebs in attendance were “Dancing With the Stars” Host/Fox Sportscaster Erin Andrews, “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush, ESPN “College GameDay” host Kirk Herbstreit, New York Yankee Mark Teixeira, Miami Dolphin Ryan Tannehill, NFL Network host Rich Eisen, Indianapolis Colt Andrew Luck, New Orleans Saint Drew Brees and ESPN host Mike Golic. Singer Nick Jonas performed.

The event featured a cigar roller, pool-top go-go dancers, specialty cocktails, a branded bar and tastings led by National Zacapa Ambassador Robert Pallone.

12 Drinks to Make Your Holiday Brighter

with one comment

Diageo Post

The holiday season is upon us. However you celebrate, it’s an exciting and crazy time of year – the lights, the gifts, the time with friends and family. The shopping, the wrapping, the cooking. Fighting for a parking space, elbowing for an XBox and clamoring for an aisle seat. Rudolph marathons, office parties, tinsel everywhere, Christmas Carols, the Elf on a Shelf OMG WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON NEW YEAR’S EVE?

Woah, I’m thirsty. Are you thirsty?

Nothing will put you in the holiday spirit like a signature seasonal cocktail in front of the fireplace. Heck, if you don’t have a fireplace, turn on the Yule Log channel (it’s a real thing) and your space heater and grab a blanket and a buddy.

To help, here’s a few drink ideas from our friends at Diageo for the #12DaysofCocktails. And to help guarantee your name will be on the “nice” list after that fit you threw over the aisle seat, you might consider leaving one of these for Santa instead of those milk and cookies.

without comments

Art Basel is an internationally-renowned festival which visits Miami each December. It attracts artists, collectors, curators, art enthusiasts, creatives and tastemakers. In its 12th year in Miami, this year it boasted more than 250 galleries and 20 satellite fairs.

In recent years, Basel has grown to become a festival bigger than Art, with numerous parties sponsored by brands in the fashion, tech and beer/wine/spirits industries. Here is a round up of some of the events DIAGEO brands sponsored:

DonJulio4

Santlov and 13th Witness Exhibition Sponsored by Tequila Don Julio

Employing the use of large-scale art installations, curated pieces by well-known photographers were displayed in the lobby of the historic Plymouth Hotel. One was Miami-based photographer Santlov, the mastermind behind the viral “ToysRLike Us” campaign. His seemingly realistic photographs consist of widely-recognized, iconic toy characters finding themselves in the midst of relatable everyday human scenarios. Also featured was photographer Tim McGurr, a.k.a. “13thWitness,” a New York native and the son of legendary street Artist Futura. McGurr captures city landscapes and provides a unique view into the world around him through his lens.

JW1

Murad Osmann’s #FollowMeTo Versace Mansion Private Showing Sponsored by Tequila Don Julio and Johnnie Walker

Murad Osmann has received a lot of buzz for his captivating photographs of travels with his girlfriend, model Nataly Zakharova. Each photograph takes the viewer on a journey to a different historical or cultural site. From the canals of Venice to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, from rice fields in Bali to his most recent journey to Art Basel, all of his works – including his latest taken at the Versace Mansion – were on display for select VIPs to view.

PAMM1
