MKTG INC Plays the Field at Super Bowl XLIX

with 2 comments

Some quick sports trivia: How many celebrities crossed an MKTG-affiliated threshold at this year’s Super Bowl? Answer: At least 100 yards’ worth. From Nick Lachey to Nick Jonas, from Erin Andrews to Andrew Luck, from Mark Teixeira to Mark Sanchez, MKTG collaborated on no fewer than 4 different brand activations throughout the Big Game weekend.

NFL BARBER SHOP
NFL Barber Shop
Super Bowl Media Day took place on the Tuesday before Super Bowl XLIX at the US Airways Center in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. To help make players and personalities feel at home before their media interviews, MKTG INC tempted up with the NFL to create a premium lounge experience for Seattle Seahawks players.

The NFL’s Barbershop experience staffed top celebrity barbers for players about to “go live” on camera. The service menu included everything from haircuts to straight razor shaves to trims to hot towels.

As soon as the doors opened, the Barbershop was crowded with Seahawks looking for a pre-camera makeover. Several players even asked for in-room hotel visits from our celebrity barbers, so they could look their best before the big game.

SUPERB OWL III
Superb Owl v2
The 3rd annual Superb Owl took place on the Friday before Super Bowl 49 at RnR Gastropub in the heart of Old Scottsdale, AZ.

A little bit of background: The Superb Owl is the international take on the celebrations surrounding the American Football Championship game, the Super Bowl. The idea was concepted by 5 English pals – some living in London and some in NYC – who wanted to create a unique experience unlike the usual testosterone-fueled, beer & wing fest that go hand-in-hand with the Super Bowl.

This event is part networking, part spectacle with light entertainment and a quintessentially English theme.

Now in its 3rd year (and best year yet!), the Superb Owl has evolved into a staple event for key influencers in the Sports & Entertainment industry, various US & UK media partners, key clients and prospective clients. This year’s Superb Owl, which has been hosted by MKTG and the 5 “Owls” from the UK in the years prior, was joined by a third host, psLIVE.

The cross-agency collaboration enjoyed record turnout for a jolly good night of networking, noshing and libations.

TEQUILA DON JULIO AND 1OAK PRESENT THE NEON CARNIVAL AT THE BIG GAME
Don Julio Neon Carnival
For the fifth year in a row, Tequila Don Julio made an exciting impact on the Big Game Weekend social scene, but this time with something entirely new and unexpected. In collaboration with nightlife impresario 1OAK, the brand brought the legendary Neon Carnival event from the desert of Indio, CA to the desert of Phoenix, AZ for the first time ever.

Hosted at Castles n’ Coasters on Friday, January 30th, this one-of-a-kind exclusive event featured the fun of carnival games and rides, handcrafted cocktails served from the Airstream Speakeasy and the hottest music in town by acclaimed DJs Ruckus and Politik. The buzzed-about event attracted influencers such as actor Chris Evans, NFL star Mark Sanchez, host of VH1’s Morning Buzz Nick Lachey and reality star Audrina Patridge.

WHEELS UP SUPER SATURDAY TAILGATE
WU

The 2nd Annual Wheels Up Super Saturday Tailgate Party pulled out all the stops this year at the Maya Club in Scottsdale with 1,000 members and their guests, which was the talk of Phoenix. Among the celebs in attendance were “Dancing With the Stars” Host/Fox Sportscaster Erin Andrews, “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush, ESPN “College GameDay” host Kirk Herbstreit, New York Yankee Mark Teixeira, Miami Dolphin Ryan Tannehill, NFL Network host Rich Eisen, Indianapolis Colt Andrew Luck, New Orleans Saint Drew Brees and ESPN host Mike Golic. Singer Nick Jonas performed.

The event featured a cigar roller, pool-top go-go dancers, specialty cocktails, a branded bar and tastings led by National Zacapa Ambassador Robert Pallone.

Top Brands to Watch at Super Bowl XLIX

ALLSTATE MAYHEM SALE

During the Allstate Sugar Bowl, Allstate released an interactive advertisement. Crowd-favorite ad character, Mayhem, proceeded to notify viewers that the couple was out of town. He intentionally broke their property and told viewers that he was selling all of their belongings on www.mayhemsale.com. The URL was active, allowing viewers to go online and actually see all of the couples’ belongings “for sale.” Needless to say, the campaign was a hit, reaching nearly 20 million impressions on Facebook in just one day. We can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeve for the Super Bowl.

TOSTITOS

Tostitos have partnered with Jimmy Kimmel for several different programs over the past year including “The Worst Contest Ever” in which Kimmel’s viewers were encouraged to send him one chip in the mail. All the chips received were to be put in Kimmel’s bowl and he would eat them while viewing the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. There were no additional prizes besides knowing that Jimmy Kimmel may have eaten the chip. Additionally, Tostitos recently began a new campaign about being “The Official Chip of the NFL” with fan-favorite coach Chip Kelly of the Philadelphia Eagles. With both campaigns taking place back-to-back, who knows what direction Tostitos will go in their Super Bowl Ad.

SKITTLES

Skittles is making a Super Bowl debut this year, releasing their first ever Super Bowl Ad. The teaser to the ad features Kurt Warner and a small group of fans tailgating weeks early in Phoenix out of excitement for the next ad. The brand is clearly excited for their comeback and we can’t wait to see what they have in store.

DORITOS

Doritos held their annual Crash The Super Bowl contest in which consumers are encouraged to create their own Super Bowl ad for Doritos. Doritos selects several finalists and America votes on their favorite. This year, Doritos partnered with Director, Producer and Actress Elizabeth Banks for this contest. Finalists received personalized calls from the Hollywood star notifying them of their accomplishment. The video with the most fan-votes and the video the Doritos brand chooses as their favorite will be aired during the Super Bowl and the creators will receive a $1 million prize as well as an opportunity to work at Universal for one year. The catch? No one knows who the winners are until the spots air on TV.

View the finalist ads HERE and tune into the Super Bowl on February 1 to see which Ads air!

A Worldly Cup of Pepsi at the World Cup

with one comment

_L5A5679For football fans all over the world, the only place to be this summer was Brazil.

As part of Pepsi’s Dream Prize campaign, 40 lucky prizewinners from all over the world touched down in the heart of the 2014 World Cup to experience the cultural highlights of Brazil.

To deliver this once in a lifetime experience, Pepsi called on MKTG INC to create an agenda that captured the country’s passion for life, color and of course football.

To celebrate our guests’ arrival into Sao Paulo and to mark the opening game of the World Cup, MKTG INC created The Pepsi House Party. Within this luxurious villa, we had a viewing area that provided the perfect setting for our guests to watch Brazil beat Croatia 3-1. To add to the Brazilian flavor, we hosted a Churrasco (traditional Brazilian BBQ) complete with samba dancers, live music, caipirinhas and a DJ to keep the party pumping into the night.

The following day started at the crack of dawn, when our guests flew to the cultural heart of Brazil, Rio de Janeiro.  They were treated to a breakfast meet-and-greet with football legend Fabio Cannavaro, arguably one of the greatest football defenders of all time and captain of Italy’s 2006 World Cup winning team. The day trip continued with a tour of Corcovado, Rio’s iconic mountain peak, and an afternoon on Copacabana beach before returning to Sao Paulo.

Within Brazil, Sao Paulo is generally considered to be the current center of inspiration for many graffiti artists worldwide. Our winners had the opportunity to tour the bohemian neighborhood of Vila Madalena, one of the most remarkable graffiti locations in the world, before putting paint to canvas themselves under the guidance and direction of some of Brazil’s leading graffiti artists.

With a group united in their passion for ‘the beautiful game,’ we decided to put their skills to the test. We put together a football day at Arena Neymar where they competed against each other in a special Pepsi World Cup.

After five days of experiences that also included Capoeira Classes to VIP nightclub parties, we said goodbye to our guests. We all agreed that Pepsi delivered on their promise of a once in a lifetime experience.

The “Real Work” of Gatorade

with one comment

W3S_5618

This year, Gatorade has been challenging the young football athletes of the globe to show us their real work through an online contest called “Unreal Around the World,” in which athletes upload a video of themselves putting in the real work necessary to give a great performance on the pitch. The athletes behind the top five winning videos will win a trip around the world with stops at the top football meccas of the world, such as the Gatorade Sports Science Institute in Bradenton, Florida,  London, Liverpool, AC Milan, FC Barcelona, Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires, Argentina), and Rio de Janeiro. To support the contest, MKTG INC is giving a taste of an unreal experience to a few elite footballers in London and New York.

On 26 May 2014, at the esteemed Emirates Stadium, 120 local athletes from academies were invited to take part in a competition that was like no other. Wearing technology that measured their biometric output, the teams were sent out to a divided pitch and started with rotations of small-sided games. Members of the Arsenal tech staff were on the sidelines providing their own assessments via an iPad scoring system. Athletes were awarded extra points for creativity and athletic ability.

Based on their scores from the wearable technology and the iPad scoring system, the top 12 overall players and the top 3 keepers were identified and highlighted in a final challenge of football drills. Drills were measured by time, creativity and accuracy.

The emotion of these athletes was intense; never before have they scored a goal to see a reaction of pyrotechnics, smoke and streamers, all in Emirates Stadium. One of the Arsenal legends, Martin Keown, made an appearance and awarded the top athletes with some words of wisdom and a congratulatory message.

Unreal Around the World will visit the New York area on May 30 at Sinatra Park in Hoboken, NJ.

Are You Ready for Some Football?

The day is finally here. It has been more than 200 days since we last watched a professional football game (American football that is). TONIGHT the Denver Broncos host the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens in the inaugural game of the National Football League’s season (known to some as Kickoff). But lets be honest, do football fans really care who wins this game tonight? No. They care how many touchdowns Peyton Manning throws and how many yards Ray Rice runs for. It’s all about Fantasy Football. No matter what league you play in, you’ll be glued to the TV to watch your Fantasy wide receiver, not wonder how the Ravens will play without their pre-game speech from Ray Lewis.

Today kicks off one of the best weekends of the year. This is where Fantasy managers find out if their 1st round draft pick was really the right pick and  if their “sleeper” really turns out to be the best pick of the draft.

Whether your team name is “Give em Flacco” or “Natural Born Spillers” good luck this weekend….you’ll need it.

No Friendlies. Just Football (and Guinness Black Lager!).

without comments

Guinness Black Lager Photo Credit: Marc Serota

If you felt there was more football on TV this summer than normal (the European kind, not the ‘Merica kind) and that some of your favorite sports stadiums were housing teams with names that didn’t sound like they were in the NFC or AFC, you certainly were onto something. This summer kicked off the first ever Guinness International Champions Cup; an 8-team tournament pitting some of the world’s best and most prestigious football clubs against each other in a series of elimination matches. The tournament began July 31st at AT&T Park in San Francisco and traversed the U.S. for over a week, ending with the finals at Sun Life Stadium in Miami on August 7th.

As the title sponsor, Guinness had the opportunity to sample Guinness Black Lager at all the tournament locations. MKTG INC set up stations in each stadium’s highest traffic areas, sampling Guinness Black Lager and giving away ICC commemorative cups to hordes of fans (21 and over). With sampling teams that topped 30 in some cities, Guinness Black Lager made quite the splash, leaving consumers pleasantly surprised by the rich and satisfying taste from the lager’s roasted barley. Fans were also surrounded by concession stands selling Guinness Black Lager, most of which reported record sales on game day.

The tournament concluded with Real Madrid topping Chelsea 3-1 in a thrilling final featuring two goals by none other than Cristiano Ronaldo, earning him Man of the Tournament honors. Over 20,000 consumers sampled Guinness Black Lager across seven days, marking an immense step for Guinness Black Lager and for football fans throughout the U.S. Some might even say it was a GOOOOOOAAALLL!

Not Your Dad’s Fan Swag: NFL Back to Football Photo Day

NFL Nike Back To Football Photo DayPhoto Credit: newstimes.com

What happens when MKTG INC takes 32 football-crazy fans, hooks them up with the sweetest new NIKE NFL products and brings in a professional team of stylists, make up artists and photographers to bring it all to life?  Fire flames, that’s what.

On Tuesday, September 4th, 32 lucky fans got just a taste of the celebrity life through the NFL’s first-ever Back to Football Photo Day.  America’s favorite League partnered with NIKE to select one super fan from each NFL team and whisked them away to NYC for an experience that blended all the glam of Fashion Week with the NFL’s manic following and unmistakable NIKE style.

The fans reported to the swanky Skylight West studio and right away were thrown into the whirlwind that was their day as an NFL VIP.  After full hair and makeup treatment, stylist to the stars Rachel Johnson engineered swag-tastic looks for each fan with a mix of hot new NIKE gear and their own personal style.  Once they were all gussied up a firing squad of professional photographers shot hundreds of images in search of the perfect look for each fan.  The images were then retouched on site in the same style as NIKE creative featuring Mark Sanchez, Victor Cruz, et. al.

Finally, after a short rest the fans were treated to a meet and greet with Commissioner Roger Goodell, followed by a VIP party complete with appearances by Kevin Frazier, Jason Sehorn and Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett.  As the party raged into the night the 32 lucky fans rocked their new looks and rubbed shoulders with NIKE & NFL executives, former players and celebrities.

Like I said.  Fire flames.
