Gatorade “Be Like Mike”

On Friday, Feb. 13 during NBA All-Star week in New York, Gatorade allowed fans to step into the shoes of Michael Jordan by taking part in a series of athletic challenges to celebrate the return of “Be Like Mike,” one of sport’s most iconic commercials. Students from area high schools, media members and even Nick Cannon recreated iconic moments that defined Jordan’s career—they shot, dunked, won and even dressed like Mike! The event was captured in an online video right before the All-Star game launched a social media campaign encouraging fans to show how they #BeLikeMike.

Guest speakers were NBA legends Horace Grant and Dominique Wilkins. They shared their experiences playing with and against Jordan in such epic moments as the 1988 Slam Dunk Contest and “The Shot on Ehlo” during the Bulls 1989 Eastern Conference Finals victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. The event was another celebratory milestone for Gatorade during its 50th anniversary year.

The House of Walker, Johnnie Walker’s traveling experiential tour, opened in New York City this December for the Holiday Season. This marks the second stop on the 2014/2015 tour after Austin, Texas.

Consumers began their night with a tasting of Black Label and Double Black with Master of Whisky Stephen Wilson. This year featured an interactive tasting table showcasing custom whisky content that complement the tasting experience. Following the tasting, guests were welcomed at the Red Label and Black Label cocktail bars, which offered cocktails created by some of New York’s best bartenders, such as:

.5  oz Johnnie Walker Double Black

.5 oz  Zacapa Rum
.5 oz Pedro Ximenez
1 bar spoon Demerara syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 dashes mole bitters

Stir and strain up in a coupe glass. Garnish with orange oils.

.25 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.25 oz Simple Syrup
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
(optional: .5 oz Becherovka)

Shake all ingredients and strain in a rocks glass

After sampling Johnnie Walker’s lower marques, guests were encouraged to explore the higher-marque lounges, including the Platinum Label area, which was lit like a photo shoot.  After sampling Platinum, a second Master of Whisky took guests through an intimate tasting while a photographer took candid photos for easy sharing through RFID card. A separate room was dedicated to Gold Label Reserve, which featured high-energy music and was housed in an illuminated Scotch-and-Soda bar offering three custom soda recipes (spicy, savory and floral) specifically created to complement Gold Label Reserve’s flavor notes.

JW

The night hit a crescendo with a Blue Label Tasting and Flavor Conductor performance**.  The Flavor Conductor was engineered to influence the perception of taste through a multi-sensory performance including sound, projection mapping and sampling. Twice a night, Johnnie Walker Global Brand Ambassador Tom Jones and well-known organist Simon Little took the stage to give an unforgettable musical Blue Label tasting experience. As in past years, Johnnie Walker partnered with Meridian Audio, Fever-Tree Ginger Beer and Perrier Sparkling Mineral Water, all of which were showcased throughout the House.

This year’s House of Walker was a mixture of guided mentorship and self exploration. Each variant’s personality was brought to life in a unique way to portray the brand story, while allowing guests to enjoy a night out with their friends.

**The Flavor Conductor was concepted by Bompas & Parr Agency as a Johnnie Walker Global initiative. This instrument will tour the globe as part of a larger activation titled “Symphony in Blue.”

Smirnoff Ice Toasts Ladies with Game

with 2 comments

SLWG

Football season started September 4, but the real fun kicked off the day before when Smirnoff Ice launched its Ladies with Game Tailgate tour in NYC. Hudson Mercantile played host to a packed tailgate bash, where attendees enjoyed a variety of cocktails made from the Smirnoff Ice portfolio, including the Screwdriver Sangria and the Preparada, a Southwestern favorite made from fresh fruits, chamoy (a popular condiment in Mexican cuisine) and Smirnoff Ice Green Apple. Of course, it wouldn’t be a tailgate without the right bites, so there was no shortage of sliders, mac and cheese, buffalo tater tots, and chicken and waffle snacks.

DJ Stef Nava provided high-energy tunes as guests challenged each other to cornhole, giant Jenga and backyard-tire football toss. For those not ready to get their heels dirty, DryBar provided blowouts and Ami V and Ria Lopez gave custom manicures to prepare them for the custom photo booth. Now everyone knows that a tailgate is nothing without a proper host to make everyone feel at home — so singer and reality TV personality Jessie James Decker led the festivities and showed off her impressive arm in the football toss challenge. Looks like she’s been practicing with her husband!

Over the course of the football season, Smirnoff Ice is hosting tailgate parties in nine cities, including Washington DC, Dallas, Atlanta, San Diego, New Orleans, Charlotte, Nashville and finally Phoenix. With the way things kicked off in New York, this looks to be a winning season for Smirnoff Ice!

SMIRNOFF ULTIMATE HOUSE PARTY

with one comment

SUHP

Tired of seeing the same vodka commercial on repeat portraying an exclusive and lavish lifestyle that you can’t relate to? Sick of waiting in the cold for hours praying the bouncer will allow you inside a club you can’t afford? Smirnoff understands, and its new “Exclusively for Everybody” campaign proves it. So did their experiential Smirnoff Ultimate House Party tour, which partnered with Spotify to offer “everybody” to host their very own Ultimate House Party. Once the 4 lucky winners were selected, MKTG INC designed a house party specifically for the winner and threw it in their home town. Several entrants also won a three-month premium Spotify membership, furthering Smirnoff’s dedication to inclusivity – music for everyone. The winner invited attendees through a tactic called “Six Degrees of Smirnoff” – 19 of the winner’s closest friends were invited and then asked to invite 6 friends of their own. This, together with residential venues and decor, gave each event the feel of a real house party. While Smirnoff’s official DJ JayCeeOh spun the summer’s hottest hits, guests enjoyed snacks and Smirnoff cocktails served in mis-matched glassware. The winner’s bedroom was re-created and decorated with pictures and personal items along with posters reflecting their interests or hobbies. Each house was equipped with a game room, bottled cocktail and punch station, large graffiti wall for guests to sign and a movie theater.

The event series kicked off in New York for Colorado native Hannah Small and featured a surprise performance by Kelis. This event was followed by winner Justin Day’s Ultimate House Party in Dallas and and Meghan Reynold’s in Portland. The final event will take place in Warren, Michigan in October. Smirnoff partnered with Uber and Broadway Cab Company (in Portland) to ensure all guests arrived in style and got home safely.

Remember – for your next house party, grab a bottle of Smirnoff. Everybody’s invited!

The “Real Work” of Gatorade

with one comment

W3S_5618

This year, Gatorade has been challenging the young football athletes of the globe to show us their real work through an online contest called “Unreal Around the World,” in which athletes upload a video of themselves putting in the real work necessary to give a great performance on the pitch. The athletes behind the top five winning videos will win a trip around the world with stops at the top football meccas of the world, such as the Gatorade Sports Science Institute in Bradenton, Florida,  London, Liverpool, AC Milan, FC Barcelona, Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires, Argentina), and Rio de Janeiro. To support the contest, MKTG INC is giving a taste of an unreal experience to a few elite footballers in London and New York.

On 26 May 2014, at the esteemed Emirates Stadium, 120 local athletes from academies were invited to take part in a competition that was like no other. Wearing technology that measured their biometric output, the teams were sent out to a divided pitch and started with rotations of small-sided games. Members of the Arsenal tech staff were on the sidelines providing their own assessments via an iPad scoring system. Athletes were awarded extra points for creativity and athletic ability.

Based on their scores from the wearable technology and the iPad scoring system, the top 12 overall players and the top 3 keepers were identified and highlighted in a final challenge of football drills. Drills were measured by time, creativity and accuracy.

The emotion of these athletes was intense; never before have they scored a goal to see a reaction of pyrotechnics, smoke and streamers, all in Emirates Stadium. One of the Arsenal legends, Martin Keown, made an appearance and awarded the top athletes with some words of wisdom and a congratulatory message.

Unreal Around the World will visit the New York area on May 30 at Sinatra Park in Hoboken, NJ.

Blue Monday, which fell on the 20th of January, has been dubbed the most depressing day of the year. It’s allegedly the day when people give up on their New Year’s resolutions and get back to their old habits. Luckily, this year New York and DC modern girls of fitness were given the opportunity to get after their fitness goals with Nike Training Club and a week of daily doubles. There were daily morning workouts with the N+TC app, afternoon workouts at the trendiest studios in each city, and rewards for all the participants such as blowouts or pedicures. It’s safe to say these women were pampered.

To top the week off, on Saturday night in New York City, the NTC took over the American Museum of Natural History Hall of Ocean Life, aka the Whale Room. Nearly 200 ladies experienced A Night at the Museum as they took on a 45-minute NTC workout led by two Nike master trainers – Rebecca Kennedy and Traci Copeland. As the workout wrapped, the exhibits surrounding the giant blue whale lit up and Prosecco was passed. The perfect celebration to end an epic week.

A Perfect Pairing for PRIDE

without comments

Diageo_Pride

MKTG INC has paired up with Smirnoff and the DIAGEO Rainbow Network to celebrate LGBT Pride Month in the Northeast with Pride Parade Floats, Festivals, and Events taking place throughout the month of June in Washington D.C., Philadelphia and New York. The activation theme for 2013 celebrates the progress and ongoing campaign towards Marriage Equality – Every Pairing is Perfect.

With three new sorbet inspired vodkas to stimulate the tastebuds, but not the waistline, Smirnoff Sorbet Light was the perfect brand to make a SPLASH at PRIDE with less than 78 calories per cocktail and three great new flavors – Raspberry Pomegranate, Light Mango Passion Fruit and Light Lemon. The Float celebrates this theme by utilizing three 7-foot inflatable bottles and a recreation of an ice cream booth accompanied by staff dressed in attire that both portrays the sorbet server and embraces the Pride Parade energy. This float has already been a booming part of the Capitol Pride parade in Washington D.C. and the Philly Pride parade in Philadelphia. The float will make its final run in the New York Pride Parade on June 30th.

Outside of the parade, Smirnoff Sorbet Light has partnered with the LGBT Community Center and to host The Center Garden Party located on the Hudson River’s Pier 84. Kicking off Pride Week in New York with over 1,500 supporters, the Garden Party will bring “A Taste of Pride” with 40 restaurants offering samples from their delicious menus and will be complimented by a variety of Smirnoff Sorbet Light specialty cocktails, including a special pairing of 16 Handles Mango Tango Sorbet with Smirnoff Sorbet Light Raspberry Pomegranate….yum!

Be sure to make your way to the NY Pride Parade Sunday June 30th while mixing and matching your Smirnoff Sorbet Light (responsibly!) because you cant go wrong – Every Pairing is Perfect!

Our Office

The New York Egotist was kind enough to post a short piece about our New York office and all the cool things inside of it. We’re talking large blocks of inspirational text (see above), video game stations, and a fully stocked in-house bar. Like W.C. Fields said, “There are only two real ways to get ahead – sell liquor or drink it.” At MKTG INC, we do both. Occasionally at the same time.

To see more photos of our workplace digs, head over here.

Atomic Phones

without comments

What would you do if someone stole all your band’s instruments, leaving you with nothing but your phone? Duh. Start an iPhone band.

Using nothing but 4 iPhone apps, Brooklyn-based Atomic Tom took their show on the…uh…track. They found a free venue with a captive audience: the New York City subway.

Here’s to turning the B train into the Beat train. There’s hope yet for my commute home.
