Employee Appreciation Day

without comments

EAD

One of our favorite traditions here in Atlanta is our annual Employee Appreciation Day, which just took place on Thursday, April 23rd. This day is a welcome diversion to take a load off and as Team Epic’s Melanie Hatcher put it: “play hooky while AT work.” More than anything, it is a way to stop and appreciate all of the good people who make this one of AJC’s Top Workplaces!

The day started with free Chick-Fil-A for breakfast, which is always the best way to start a day in Atlanta, home of Chick-Fil-A. From there, everyone signed up for a complimentary massage and car wash.

Once noon came around, lunch was served outside on a beautiful afternoon from one of our favorite mobile food services: fresh Woodfired Pizza. You can find S & J Woodfired Pizza at festivals around Atlanta and so it’s a pleasure to have them cater a unique lunch experience for everyone in the office.

For the late afternoon, it was time to win some prizes with bingo, raffles, basketball, and beer. Up for grabs were multiple gift cards, free Reebok shoes, and even new free 42” televisions!

Finally, it wouldn’t be an Employee Appreciation Day recap without the inaugural psLIVE Darts Championship, help from 9am and coming to its dramatic conclusion around 6pm. Featuring 22 [mostly] talent dart throwers, each round proved to be as much fun to watch as it was to participate. When the dust settled and all of the bullseyes were hit, Matt Barth emerged victorious to cap off what was, once again, a great day for everyone to feel appreciated!

Lower Energy Bills = Happy Homes

Apple advertising usually makes the top of most lists for great advertising. We wouldn’t expect anything less especially from companies that have Apple veterans running them.

Nest, a smart thermostat company, was founded by Tony Faddell, the father of the iPod. The company has partnered with Goodby Silverstein & Partners for a new Happy Home campaign that includes TV spots showing homes that are happy from the outside due to the energy savings going on inside.

The campaign is also promoting the campaign on Pinterest where the company is holding a contest for followers to post pictures of “Happy” homes. What a good use of Pinterest!

If you haven’t had a chance to check out what Nest is doing, check out their website and the TV spot.

Vans is the man when it comes to brand. To promote their new Yo Gabba Gabba shoe collection, Vans has partnered with the hip kids’ show to produce a series of videos exploring the totally logical link between action sports and giant-sized bright-red alien animals with one eye.

The videos showcase the Gabba Land characters’ mad motocross, skateboard, surf and BMX skills as they bring it alongside pro athletes like Alex Knost and Alistair Whitton. Music by everyone from Devo to the Dragons. First up is Muno exploring LA on a skateboard, in homage to the iconic Bones Brigade Video Show. Want more? Get it here on the Vans microsite.

RISE TO THE OCCASION

without comments

The much-anticipated NBA season opened last night with the Celtics, the Heat and LeBron James eating a pink-frosted donut. Nike’s new LeBron James: Rise commercial shows a LeBron no one expects to see: introspective, self-deprecating, a soulful slam poet wearing a fedora. From the sound of it a lot of people don’t want to see this new LeBron, or any other LeBron for that matter, but it’s not like Nike doesn’t know that: LeBron repeatedly asks us “What should I do?” and then he says, “Maybe I should just disappear.” I myself loved it: it’s funny, it’s smart, it’s very well written, and it’s got a Don Johnson cameo. I ask for nothing more.

FOREVER LOST

without comments

thoms

As fans of ABC’s “Lost” wait with more anticipation than the prospect of a pony from Santa, theories, commentaries, diaries and the like in-between are flooding the internet, (creating even more buzz than the YouTube release of “Charlie Bit Me – Autotune Remix”). With only two and a half hours left to cap off what has been a wild ride of mystery, time travel and creepy black smoke, fans are coming together to celebrate this highly anticipated climax in epic fashion.

Professor Thom’s, a New York City bar on 2nd Ave, is hosting “Lost-a-Thon” —a 4-day showing (beginning on May 19) of all 120 episodes of “Lost” back-to-back, while raising money for charity…and trying to set the Guinness World Record for longest television marathon. Open to the public at literally all hours of the day right up until the last “Lost” logo flashes at the close of the final episode, the marathon at Professor Thom’s is a must for any “Lost” junkie. As “Lost” heroic heartthrob, Jack Sheppard, would advise, “Either watch together or die alone.”
